On 19 September 2021 at 12.30pm we had a Greek Family Day in the Hall, and it involved more than was originally planned.

A couple of weeks beforehand it had been announced that as a part of Bishop Toal’s reorganisation of Deacons in the Diocese, Deacon Michael would be going to St Columbkille's in Rutherglen. Sunday 19 September was actually Deacon Michael's last day in our parish and so the opportunity was taken to thank him then for all he did while in St Bride's. He also received warm wishes for his new appointment and a presentation of a gift from the parish.

In his turn Deacon Michael expressed sincere thanks to all the parishioners who contributed to his leaving gift. He was also thankful for all the individual gifts received, and for all the messages of appreciation and good wishes. He promised to keep everyone at St Bride’s in his prayers and we will keep him likewise in ours.

Of course, the Greek Family Day included some delicious food which Deacon Michael was not alone in enjoying. As you may know, in olden days Greeks called themselves Hellenes. It was remarkable then that both of the chefs who prepared the cuisine of the Hellenes were themselves called Helen! Many thanks to them.

Another addition to the day was a slideshow of parishioners' thoughts on how the pandemic had affected them. These were collated by parishioner Kate Gingell, and she and Fr Rafal introduced a very interesting presentation of them. Our thanks to them and everyone else who made the day such a success.
